Martin Brittain was on the pitch receiving treatment for 30 minutes before it was safe for him to be moved off the pitch and into an ambulance on the running track.

The game was originally going to continue, however the Gateshead players, understandably, refused to come out to play the remaining 11 minutes plus "injury" time.

It is likely the two sides will share a point, rather than the game be replayed.

The game itself had started in an entertaining fashion. Michael Mackay and Armond One both came close for Gateshead, while Jim Provett made a superb save at the other end of the pitch.

Debutante Christoph Ascherl will want to forget his debut having already been sent off in bizarre fashion before Brittains injury ended the game.

Look out for further news on Brittain over the next few days. Brittain was taken to hospital with his mother who was attending the game along with his father who shortly followed.

Gateshead will now have to put this behind them so they can concentrate on their midweek trip to Kettering on Tuesday.
